Easy Fabric Bead necklaces!
Supplies you will need include:
Cut a piece of fabric about 1 yard long by 2 inches wide. This measurement can vary depending on how long a necklace you want and also how big a hole your beads have through them. Accordingly the number of beads you need will be dependent upon how elaborate or simple a necklace you wish to produce.
With right sides together sew a seam down the long side of the fabric forming a tube.
Next you will need to turn the tube right side out. This can be accomplished with either a tube turner or just by attaching a safety pin to the edge and running it through the tube and pulling the tube through itself.
Now you are ready to begin attaching the beads. Marking the center of the tube can be helpful at this point just to give you a reference especially if you are using a bead of interest which you want to be the focus point of the necklace.
After choosing what bead or beads will be at the center point, feed the bead on to the tubing. You will have to roll the end of the tube tightly in order to fit it through the bead. Slide the bead (beads) down to the middle point of the necklace. Next put one of the slightly larger beads ( I usually use wooden beads for this part) inside the tube and down next to the outer beads.
Using the beads inside the tube gives the appearance of fabric beads between your fashion beads. Continue applying beads in this fashion until satisfied with your design. Of course you can place beads directly beside each other as you will see in the next picture or continue alternating in and outside of the tube.
When you are happy with your results, tie the free ends of the fabric together in a square knot and trim the ends of the fabric tube.
These necklaces can be made of whatever fabric you like and can be made to coordinate with garments or other accessories. Have fun trying this quick and easy craft. Here is another necklace made in the same manner but of different fabric and with heart shaped beads.
