Stretchy bead bracelet using recycled beads.

Shop at Yard Sales and Second Hand stores for old "junk" jewelry. (or try Gramma's attic! Just be sure they don't have sentimental value).

Assemble your materials. You will need beads of course. Elastic thread, a darning needle, and some large seed beads for spacers. Make sure your darning needle will pass through the large seed beads. If not, find a smaller needle. Add charms attached with jump rings if desired. Jump rings are available at your local craft/bead store. They protect the elastic thread from the possible sharp edge of the charm and allow it to hang freely.

Cut a piece of elastic thread about 12 to 18 inches long to allow for plenty of working freedom. Thread onto your darning needle, and tie a large knot on the other end. Start with whatever bead you desire and place a large seed bead between each large bead. You can mix and match bead sizes and colors as you desire. Be creative, be wild, make a pattern (ie: 1 red, 1 gold, 1 red, 1 gold) or be a free spirit and just put them on however you like.

Continue until your string of beads is the right size for the wrist of the intended wearer.

At this time pull the elastic thread from the knot end so that you have several inches extending from each end of the beads. You need this excess to tie a good knot that will secure your bracelet. Holding the two ends of thread, tie them in a knot as if they were one string. Pull it tight and then clip the ends about 1/4 inch long. Carefully slide a bead over the knot. You are done!!
